This interactive lecture explores how the collection of fire scene data requires the recognition and identification of fire effects and fire patterns. Understanding the nature of fire effects and patterns, and the difference between the two, is critical to the fire investigator's ability to correctly evaluate the origin, development, and spread of a fire. 

After completing this course, the fire investigator will be able to:

• Describe the geometry of fire patterns. 
• Describe the potential causes of, and misconceptions about, irregular fire patterns.

• Describe how to map fire patterns among arced electrical conductors.

Practitioners who successfully complete the Fire Effects and Patterns course are eligible for 1.5 hours of continuing education.
