This Recert course discusses what first responders can do when the calls they are sent to are a result of criminal activities. Responders must understand how to identify signs of potential criminal activity and understand their role in the criminal investigation. Evidence must be preserved, sampled, collected, and documented properly so that the person(s) responsible can be identified, captured, and prosecuted, and so victims of the incident can file lawsuits to claim or recover damages. If a responder suspects that an explosive device is present, the appropriate explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team should be notified immediately.
After completing this course, the fire fighter will be able to:
- Analyze a hazardous materials incident.
- Describe how to preserve evidence.
- Identify and describe actions to take in sampling evidence.
Fire fighters who successfully complete the Evidence Preservation and Sampling course are eligible for 1 hour of continuing education.
