This Recert course discusses the Incident Command System (ICS), which is used to control resources used to handle large and small emergency incidents. By using the ICS and its concepts on every incident, fire fighters can become proficient in and accustomed to its use. This course discusses the history and characteristics of the ICS, its the organization, and the terms used within the ICS. It also focuses on how to function within an assigned role within the ICS and describe the transfer of command.

After completing this course, the fire fighter will be able to:

• Describe the characteristics of the ICS.
• Explain the organization of the ICS.
• Function within an assigned role within the ICS.
• Organize and coordinate an ICS until command is transferred.
• Transfer command within an ICS.

Fire fighters who successfully complete the Incident Command System course are eligible for 1 hour of continuing education.
