??This interactive lecture explores endocrine and metabolic disorders. Performing an assessment of a patient’s endocrine system is challenging. The locations of most of these glands make it impossible to inspect, palpate, or percuss them, with the exceptions of the thyroid gland and the testes. It is also difficult to assess this system due to the different effects the hormones have on various systems throughout the body. Assessment of endocrine function depends on gathering data and recognizing the underlying pattern of an endocrine disorder.

At the completion of this lesson, the practitioner should be able to:

• Describe the anatomy and physiology of the endocrine system.
• Describe the pathophysiology of common endocrine disorders.
• Describe the pathophysiology of common metabolic disorders.
• Implement effective treatment plans consistent with assessment findings.
• Discuss endocrine and metabolic disorders using case scenarios and following the AMLS assessment pathway.
