This interactive lecture details the at risk for environmental injuries to humans when the environment changes suddenly or adaptation strategies are not in place. These conditions include extreme temperatures, atmosphere at high elevations, and liquid immersion. Environmental temperature extremes can occur anywhere, so environmental emergencies are quite common.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:

• Review the basic pathophysiology associated with environmental-related emergencies.
• Discuss early recognition and management of environmental emergencies.
• Discuss management of patients who have been exposed to an environmental-related emergency using the AMLS Assessment Pathway.

Practitioners who successfully complete the Environmental-Related Emergencies (AMLS 3e ALS/BLS Edition) course are eligible for 0.5 hours of continuing education through CAPCE.
