This interactive lecture discusses safety, which must be a primary concern at every fire scene. It is the responsibility of the fire investigator to safeguard technical personnel, assistants, and trainees.

After completing this course, the fire investigator will be able to:

• Identify the fire investigator's responsibility for safety at a fire scene. 
• Explain the possibility of safety concerns related to the public. 
• Describe how to conduct a hazard and risk assessment. 
• Identify and describe factors that influence scene safety. 
• Describe the impact of criminal acts or acts of terrorism on fire investigator safety.
• Describe safety clothing and equipment to be used at fire and explosion sites. 
• Identify the role of personal health and safety for the fire investigator. 
• Describe how the investigator fits into the incident command system.
• Identify the role of communication in fire investigator safety. 
• Explain the role of Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, standards in keeping fire investigators safe.

Practitioners who successfully complete the Safety (Fire Edition) course are eligible for 1.0 hours of continuing education.
