Special hazards have become more common in many occupancies, especially in small quantities. It is common to find flammable liquids and gases (gasoline, propane) in occupancies normally considered to be low hazard. Many industrial facilities use flammable and combustible liquids and gases as part of their manufacturing processes. This interactive lecture addresses the hazards associated with flammable and combustible liquids, flammable gases, and other hazardous materials.

After completing this course, the fire inspector should be able to:

• List the classifications of flammable and combustible liquids.
• List the classifications of flammable and combustible gases, and
• Describe the classification of hazardous materials.
• Describe the labeling systems for hazardous materials, including flammable and combustible liquids and gasses and
• Describe how to properly store hazardous materials, including flammable and combustible liquids, and gases.
• Describe how to properly handle hazardous materials, including flammable and combustible liquids and gases, and
• Describe how to ensure that hazardous materials, including flammable and combustible liquids and gases, are stored, handled, and used in accordance with all applicable codes, standards, and policies.
• Describe the fire protection systems and equipment that are appropriate for use with hazardous materials, including flammable and combustible liquids and gases.

Fire inspectors who successfully complete the Ensuring Proper Storage and Handling Practices (Fire Edition) course are eligible for 1.0 hours of continuing education.
