After completing this course, the fire inspector should be able to:

• Describe how field notes, sketches, diagrams, and photographs are used to complete a fire inspection report.
• Describe the common elements in all fire inspection reports.
• Describe the proper documentation methods to use when resolving complaints.
• Describe how to properly reference a code or standard.
• Describe how to maintain records in accordance with applicable laws and department practices.
• Describe how to comply with Freedom of Information Act requests.
• Describe how to present evidence during a legal proceeding.

Fire inspectors who successfully complete the Writing Reports and Keeping Records (Fire Edition) course are eligible for 1.0 hours of continuing education.
