This Recert course discusses how the Fire Service Instructor I delivers instruction and maintains a positive learning environment, and how the the Fire Service Instructor II develops course materials and may supervise other instructors. Although instructors may fit into the departmental organizational chart in a variety of ways, they act as leader, mentor, coach, evaluator, and teacher to other members of the fire department. To be most valuable to their departments, instructors must stay current on industry-related topics, meet required standards, and aid in succession planning. In addition, instructors often face ethical dilemmas and must be accountable through training and thorough recordkeeping. Successful instructors also balance multiple priorities and delegate to others in order to avoid burnout.
