Case Study: Curriculum Development

Summary: 
When a leading for-profit educational institution approached Jones & Bartlett Learning wanting to offer a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration that would be accredited and could begin enrolling students in the next six months, our team quickly developed a unique solution for them.

The client’s requirements for the initiative were as follows:
  • Needed to leverage some of their existing courses.
  • Each course needed identification and needed to include outlined student objectives that meet accreditation guidelines.
  • Courses needed to also be available online.
  • Course materials needed to be current, meet student objectives, have complete instructor resources and be reasonably priced.
Solution:
Working collaboratively with curriculum developers JBL’s Career Education team created basic program and course outcomes to meet the school’s accreditation needs. We matched up the outcomes with JBL’s current textbooks available in both hard copy and eBook format. JBL introduced several of our authors to the school to provide real world guidance on the career paths that would be available to upon graduation. We also provided instructor resources, which allowed the courses to be taught seamlessly even with adjunct instructors working under short preparation time frames.

Our customer was able to use all of the customized tools that Jones & Bartlett Learning provided to seek and earn accreditation.  Our client began enrolling students in their Health Care Management program in September 2009.

Results:
In short order, Jones & Bartlett Learning, utilizing the expertise of our curriculum development team, authors, and learning resources, helped our customer offer a timely Health Care Administration degree that received accreditation. They were able to meet their deadline and began enrolling students on time

Case Study: eBook Solution


Summary:
A nationwide for-profit institution offering both ground and online programs wanted to offer their students more options for purchasing textbooks.

The client’s requirements for the eBook initiative included:
  • Dedicated Web site for the students to order hard copy books
  • eBook availability of all J&B titles in their selected ebook platform
  • Rapid turnaround on eBook development and conversion (ebooks available to students in three months).
Solution:
Our Career Education team created a dedicated Web site, including relevant course and text information, allowing students to order their books directly from Jones & Bartlett Learning. Furthermore, our media services department worked closely with the institution's preferred eBook vendor to provide HTML-formatted books for all of the courses using JBL textbooks. The eBook solution is also available for faculty access, which helps them prepare in advance for their upcoming course load once they receive their assignments.

Results:
JBL’s Career Education team provided an eBook solution to this customer and a direct student site which helped students easily select the correct materials for each course and provided an interactive electronic option for the textbook.

Case Study: Complete Program Redesign

Summary: 
Recently won the contract for a leading for-profit educational institution to redevelop their Information Security degree program.

The client’s requirements for the initiative were as follows:
  • Create new labs to accompany each student objective in each course.
  • Create new, up-to-date textbooks available in print and electronic format
  • Map all course learning objectives to major IT security certifications.
  • Include fully developed courseware and instructor materials for online and ground campuses.
  • Materials must be state-of-the-art and take budget considerations into account.
Solution:
Delivered a completely integrated vision for delivering on-ground and online curriculum in the IT security field, leveraging information security content expertise coupled with a partnership with a leading accrediting organization. The program integrates hands-on lab training that increases the client’s ROI through our unique learning architecture. It maps to all of the leading certifications in the industry and provides students with the skill set necessary to hit the ground running when they join the workforce.

Results:
